Project Info
Kumhale is a commission from Fair Trade Korea 'G:ru' and the Nepali fair trade organisation Sana Hastakala - an iniciative from Youngshin Sim, under the heading Design for Development: 4th World. The main objective for the project is to create market opportunities for Asian craftsmen through innovative design proposals. Kumhale was developed alongside Nepali potters from the Kathmandu Valley, in collaboration with the centre Thimi Ceramics, applying traditional production methods and techniques for alternative outcomes.
The first prototypes were developed in August 2011 and are intended initially for the Korean market. We are currently working towards their exhibition in Seoul, for August 2012. Further information on the exhibition and sales will follow soon!
Kumhale means 'move the earth' in Nepali. It is under this mindset that the project is developed with hope for a sustainable future of commerce and production.
