Project Info

Pitch & Putt is a photography project focusing on the present construction of spaces of leisure. Spaces designed for consumption and strongly regulated. The project was developed in the district of Chamberí, Madrid, Spain, known for its need of green spaces. The places photographed belong to the newly constructed private golf park, which covers 6 hectares.

Its construction aroused many critics due to its 'illegal' and undercover implantation. In 2003 the district was promised a public park with green areas on the terrains of the water deposits of the Canal of Isabel II of Madrid. In 2006, the regional government of the autonomous region of Madrid, declared the golf course project of 'general interest', overlooking the requirements and requisites outlined by the Administration of the city of Madrid. It is noted that the construction of a golf course previously requires the official presentation of a Plan of Sustainable Administration of water, which in this case was omitted. Although it stands on artificial grass, the park will still consume 25 million liters of water per year.
